5 Tips for a Winter Wedding

Vancouver just got 30cm overnight! Can you imagine that happening the night before your event? Here in BC, Canada, any event planned between November and March, this could happen. Here are the top 5 things to think about when planning a winter wedding:

1. TRANSPORTATION
Do you have a contingency plan in case public transportation is halted? What percentage of your guests are travelling a long distance? If they are travelling internationally, make sure they arrive a day or two early.

2. PHOTOGRAPY
Ask your photographer: Have they shot in winter before? Are they familiar with working with the brightness of snow? Ask for examples.

3. ELDERLY GUESTS
Do you have many elderly guests attending? Do they have far to travel, and will they be comfortable in your venue?

4. OUTFITS
Have you ever seen a photo of yourself straining to smile in the cold? Is that how you want your wedding photos to be? I don't think so! Consider what you are going to wear to an outside ceremony, cute furry shawls, umbrellas, and winter booties are all approved!

5. FLORALS
Flowers are precious and can easily get destroyed by adverse weather conditions. When you speak to your florist about your vision, remember to ask them their opinion about how weather will affect the flowers.

BONUS TIP!! - FLEXIBILITY
If you see a big storm in the forecast, it's worth contacting all of your vendors and seeing what flexibility they have. Whilst your venue and the catering might be able to delay by a few hours, your commissioner, florist and décor rentals are likely to have more than one event per day, and may not be able to accommodate any changes.

As always, the best way to be on top of things is to hire a wedding planner! Send us a DM to set up a virtual planning session where we can go over all of your questions!
